It takes something extra to lead a life of success. Most people struggle at some point in their career, but Mike Baur’s struggles were different. He’d already achieved great success by the time his struggles found him. Nevertheless, the story of his career is an inspirational tale.
According to some, he began his first bank job when he was 16 years old. Despite rumors, it’s a fact that he joined a Union Bank of Switzerland in 1991. He started out as an apprentice but quickly rose through the ranks. He was expected to climb the corporate ladder all the way to the top.
Surprisingly, the expectations people had for Baur proved accurate. Within 15 years, Baur achieved numerous promotions and generous compensation. He was the most talented banker that ever worked for UBS. Still, in 2008, he left UBS and joined Clariden Leu. He hoped the change of scenery would re-inspire his passion for banking.
He didn’t work at Clariden for long, only six years. In 2014, he co-founded Swiss Startup Factory with a fellow Bern University graduate, Max Meister. Their company helps young tech entrepreneurs get their startups operational. They offer services to any qualifying startup, including mentoring, training, and financial support.
The best way that SSUF helps new enterprises is encouraging them to make a name for themselves. The easiest way for a startup to get noticed is by competing in pitching contests. Even when SSUF first launched, Baur participated as a juror in a pitching contest to get Swiss Startup Factory’s name out there.
His first year as an entrepreneur was huge. He not only co-founded SSUF, he founded Think Reloaded by himself. He later joined CTI Invest after working with one of their executives. It didn’t take long before CTI and SSUF started working together.
From day one, Swiss Startup Factory was amazing. Even calling the company a factory was a well thought out concept that inspires consistency. When people think of factories, they think of assembly lines and unions, both aspects of a prosperous and efficient company. That’s the willpower that Baur wants every entrepreneur to have.
Throughout his career, Baur made all the right choices. He found success even after losing interest in something that’d been a part of his life for over 20 years. That makes him an incredibly wise businessman.
